Post-Operative Myringotomies with Tubes

To Post-Operative Patients:

These are some brief instructions that should answer most of your questions during your post-operative period. We have a 24-hour answering service that will notify Dr. Payton and/or Dr. Murry or Dr. Roediger after hours regarding questions, concerns or emergencies. The office number is 797-5753.

At the time of discharge, go home and rest. You may return to school/work and normal activity the next day

When bathing, place a small piece of cotton moistened with Vaseline in the outer ear canal.

Ear molds are available through our office at an additional cost if you or your child is an avid swimmer.

The tubes will fall out by themselves in approximately eight months.
  • .
A small amount of draining from the ears for a few days is normal. Any excessive drainage should be reported to our office.

You will be given eye drops by the nurse, prior to discharge. Place three drops in each ear, three times a day for the first two days.
